The DivaGals are delighted to be a part of the fifth anniversary of Mi Amor Gala, which is having its first New York City celebration. This formal fundraiser is the brainchild of Luisa Diaz Brown, a former Miss Venezuela who currently holds the title of Mrs. New York International. An entrepreneur, actress and philanthropist, Luisa has dedicated her life to helping those in need. Here are five things you need to know about the upcoming gala on Nov. 21.
What is the Mi Amor Gala? Mi Amor Gala recognizes Angels who empower other Angels with broken wings, through the gift of love. The organization raises funds which are donated to nonprofit organizations that empower woman. This year, Mi Amor Gala is benefitting Safe Passage, which provides emergency shelter, counseling, advocacy, peer support and legal services to victims of domestic violence.
Who is being honored in this year’s event? Mi Amor Gala honors individuals engaged in outstanding works of philanthropy with its “Kindness is Cool” award and hosts the “Runway of Hope.” This year’s honorees include diplomat Claudia Romo Edelman; actress April Hernandez-Castillo and self-made entrepreneur Liana Zavo. This year’s runway will feature women who have survived domestic violence.
What will the evening entail? Along with dinner and live music, Grammy Award-winning producer and artist John Carter Cash and Ana Cristina Cash will give a performance. There will be a silent auction as well.
Where is it taking place? The 5th annual Mi Amor Gala will take place at The Cutting Room, 44 East 32nd St., from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
